During a trip of a few weeks to Guangzou, China, Greg was introduced to a group of Chinese artists working and exhibiting in Guangzhou. He befreinded artist Wu Tong, whose grandfather is recognized as a master Chinese caligrapher. Carrying on the tradition, Wu Tong was taught by his grandfather, and introduced Greg into the Chinese style of gestural and caligraphic Chinese art. In this time, Greg was learning to write in Chinese, and he signed a few works of this time with his given Chinese translation 'Gu Ge Lin', which is written at the right of this work. At the bottom left appears his stamp, which Wu Tong had a stamp maker carve for him.
